Ben Nevis - Scotland
Ice and mixed terrain paradise
Scottish winter climbing is known throughout the world for adventure and quality of experience. Ben Nevis, Glen Coe and the surrounding mountains offer some of the most beautiful climbing on snow and ice across Europe.
At a stone's throw from the town of Fort William, Ben Nevis (1344m) is the highest mountain in the British Isles. His fame is due to the impressive and imposing north side, characterized by vertical walls, buttresses, ridges and goulottes, with climbing routes on snow, ice and mixed terrain of every difficulty and a development that can reach over six hundred meters.
The famous trail Allt a'Mhuillin, leads to the CIC Hut (680m), a private mountain hut owned by the Scottish Mountaineering Club, the starting point for many climbing routes along the northern wall.
Point Five Gully, the most popular line, sets the standart grade V, from which all other steep snow/ice gully climbs are gauged. Waterfall Gully, Tower Ridge and Ledge Route, some of the other most popular climbs.
